What an amazing day @Local Women Magazine awards surrounded by the most inspirational woman.
I'm not going to lie I had the tissues out quite a few times at hearing the wonderful work and lives of so many strong, caring inspirational woman.
And maybe I'm a little biased but I thought our Mid-Ulster woman were right up there among the best.

⭐️ I met up with some old acquaintances like the lovely Karen McElroy, from Creggan Primary school ,Finalist of Inspirational Principal category

⭐️ I met new friends Ciara and Maria In the Friendship category

⭐️ And we had the wonderful winner of the Grandmother section Teresa Mc Erlean (at our very table) represented by two of her daughters Deirdre and Marian
Truly amazing

⭐️ And of course supported by my wonderful husband Michael,I was there as a finalist in the Inspiration woman for supporting students(happy to represent all the wonderful young people I work with) So thank you again for the recognition and nomination

TWELVE THINGS NON-AUTISTICS DO THAT MAKE NO SENSE TO AUTISTIC PEOPLE

1. They want us to show empathy and yet they can be punitive, patronizing, and prone to mischaracterizing our emotional responses when we do.

2. They feel entitled to tell us the room is not loud, we are not cold, not hot, not hungry, not full, not tired. Why do they think they know what we are feeling in our bodies?

3. They are superstitious. How will knocking on wood prevent bad luck, and opening an umbrella indoors or walking under a ladder cause it? And all those poor rabbits missing their feet…

4. They tell us we should judge people by their actions and positive personality attributes like kindness and generosity. Why, then, do they insist the way we dress or our housekeeping will make people avoid us?

5. Direct and honest communication is a valued attribute in our society, yet they lie to each other all the time. How am I the weird one for being honest?

6. They judge how trustworthy we are by how long we can stare into their eyes during a conversation. Wait. What? So weird.

7. They seem perfectly fine when plans change last minute. In fact, sometimes they do it on purpose—just for fun. Plans are there for a reason, people!

8. They don’t say what they mean yet we’re ridiculed if we take their words at face value.

9. They seem to have a need to touch other people. What’s with all the random hug requests? Get your hand off my shoulder, and while you’re at it, take a step back.

10. They’re willing to pay $7 every morning to buy a coffee from a hip place or spend $200 for a pair of jeans from a famous label. This is because other people will think they’re cool. That’s not cool. It’s just a waste of money.
.

11. They love to talk about the weather. It’s like they’re obsessed with this go-to ice-breaker. Wouldn’t time be better spent skipping the small talk and chatting about a topic we’re both interested in (which, okay, to be fair, is the weather for some of us)?

12. They encourage people to think for themselves and to be independent, yet they insist we follow social norms and make every effort to fit in.

**What are your thoughts? Please tell us what non-Autistics do that you find strange.**

It was such a delight to work with this group of wonderful young people. They worked so hard on each book and I was massively impressed with their dedication to every task. Also well done to each and every parent who supported their young person in completing these independence tasks ,it was a long journey to complete all books and I know you were as proud as I was but also just so impressed with how many skills each young person has developed. Finally thank you to the wonderful FACTS for understanding the importance of developing independence skills for your young people. I know how proud you are of their outstanding achievements and that without your vision and hard work this would not have been possible.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

Thank you Anne Marie you are a wonderful coach. The boys really enjoyed their sessions with you. Two very proud parenrs!
